Update on Completely Rebuilding and Refitting my Custom Self-Build Movano Campervan

It’s been quiet on this blog… but that’s because I’ve been busy. In my last post you saw I was planning a refit… well work’s well underway. I’m working on her (Jess) weekends, the odd day here and there. It’s weather permitting and I fit it in around having a life, work and the usual stuff. But work has been going well and lots of the structural stuff is in place. Of course without panels and finishing it looks like chaos… but I’m OK with that. When converting a van into a campervan you need three things: 1) vision 2) faith 3) patience.

So anyway rambling aside I thought I’d share some pictures to give you an idea of how she’s progressing:

Working on the Van Conversion Near Rome Italy.

Thanks to my very good friend Johnathan and his family here, Maria, Luigi Gu and Agnese!

Sometimes you’ve just got to enjoy the sunset… In the picture below you’ll notice I’ve taken out the bulkhead and above the driver cabin is now a stainless steel hot water tank. Extending out midway across the side entrance you can see the kitchen workstation.

Is that a shower tray I see. So we’ve got the hot water and the shower coming together. This is a big upgrade on the last layout which didn’t have either.

What we’re looking at above is the metal and wood frame of the new rear wall. On the left we can see the mounting boards for the van’s 12v and 240V electrical system. In the old version all of this was low down under a cabinet and really hard to get to. Now all the important things like fuses, isolator switches, volt meters, 240V inverters etc are easily accessible from either inside or from the rear door. No more gymnastics to get to a fuse!

Here’s a look at how things are coming along. There’s a lot of structural work done and cables routed etc. but she’s naked without panelling and a nice finish (remember you need vision!) so anyway, have a look and enjoy the chaos. I’ve got a plan so it’s not daunting but when you see it like this it’s hard to believe there’s an end in sight… but there is!

If the suspense is too much you can see the final build along with a video tour here.
