Taking Blue, my Blue Merle collie on the Ferry from Dover to Calais was really simple. When I checked in they put a bright pink sticker on the lane card which I was told to “make sure they see this when you go on the ferry. They’ll make sure you’re not parked next to a heater.“
When I boarded the ferry I made sure I made eye contact with the crew guiding cars onto the vessel and when he looked my way I pointed at the sticker and he then directed me to a different lane. I was parked by the hull rather than the central stairwell.
When checking in I also asked if I’d be allowed to take Blue out of my campervan and they said “No he’d have to stay inside the van at all times“. I guess that makes sense. So it was with a slightly guilty feeling that I left Blue in the back of the van. I left the sunroof open for ventilation and he had plenty of fresh water too.
I needn’t have felt guilty because when I opened the sliding door he looked at me as if to say “Hey, how’s it going man, I’m just chilling here.“
I actually think it was kinder leaving him in the van, a familiar and comfortable environment than taking him on the ferry with lots of stars, people, noises and smells. So there you go, taking a dog on a ferry is really easy.
I guess some people just can’t bear it though… as this photo below shows:
This was the passenger in the campervan parked near me on the MyFerryLine ferry. 🤣
